"GunBound . . . is a free-to-play, turn-based, room-to-room, multiplayer online game with many similar features to the popular Worms game series." Below, is a gameplay video of FtSkillz (not a GunBound Classic member as far as I know) using Nak Machine (my favorite mobile) on GunBound Europe in 2007:
GunBound Classic International Service is a popular private server featuring the classic version of the game. In early July 2010, there was a rumor that GIS, the official GunBound server, would shut down in September 2010. From what we've seen, activity on GIS has declined significantly. I do not know of any further developments due to my inactivity on GB Classic's forums (said forums are down often due to frequent host changes).
GB Classic may not have all the game features that GIS goes, but its web site functions run very smoothly and getting support is straightforward. Those of you that have Windows Live Messenger should add livesupport at softnyx-canada.net to your contacts. Game masters sign in with that account and will help you with your game issues. Other than that, the forums are a good place to go (if they're up).
| Minimum | Recommended | |
| Processor | 366MHz Pentium II | 1GHz Pentium III |
| Hard drive | >= 300 MB free space | Same |
| RAM | 16 MB | 128 MB |
| Video card | 8 MB | 16 MB |
With such small demands, your system is very likely to be able to run the game. Do not expect trouble unless your operating system is something very outdated like Windows 98. Download the game using whichever mirror you like. If you experience problems, try downloading from another mirror and reinstalling the game. If that fails as well, make use of livesupport or post on the forums.
As you download the game, register for an account by clicking this link or by clicking the "Register Now!" button on their website. The only e-mail verification issue I know of occurs with Hotmail; Hotmail thinks it is junk/bulk/? mail (not sure since I have never used it). If you have an aol.com (potentially aim.com too) e-mail address, you may have an issue receiving the verification e-mail as well. My first e-mail (that I used for years) was a aol.com address and I would have this problem with many games. Trust me, AOL mail is awful; I am pretty sure anything else (like Gmail!) is better.
Once you have verified your account and installed the game, you are ready to play! Click the desktop icon to open the launcher. Before you click "Game Start," click "Option." The volume for music and sound effects are maxed (5) by default. The sliders' values are 0-5; zero is mute. You may want to turn the volume down a bit. If you don't do it here, you will have to wait until you are actually in a match. When in a match, you adjust volume and other settings by pressing Esc or by clicking the button at the top left of the screen.
Those of you with Windows Vista or Windows 7 that use Mozilla Firefox as your browser or iTunes as your media player (I use both) need to do an extra step. For some reason, the game will constantly minimize if iTunes is running, so close it before you start playing. If you really need a media player running, I suggest Winamp as an alternative (the game music is fine to me. SUDDEN DEATH! is awesome). You do not have to close Firefox. Instead, you need to make sure it is on-screen (not minimized) when you start the game. Be sure to close other Firefox related windows (Downloads, Organize Bookmarks, etc), though. If you tab out, make sure Firefox's window is up when you switch back to the game.
